Personalised number plates remain a popular way to as a personal touch to a treasured vehicle. Whether you want your name, initials, or something that reflects a favorite hobby, the model of the car, a touch of whimsy, or the owner’s occupation, people can get very creative with their choices for personalised registrations.
These personalised registrations vary in price. Some drivers have spent large sums of money to obtain the personalised plate of their choice. This list shows the most expensive personalised number plates.
The most expensive number plate sold in the UK is 25 O. The plate was purchased for the most expensive car bought at auction, a Ferrari 250 GT sold for £30,750,300. The number plate for this car cost £518,480.
This number plate sold for £502,500 in November 2012 to become the second most expensive personalised plate sold in the UK to date.
For almost a year, the G 1 number plate was the most expensive plate ever sold in the UK. In September 2011, this plate sold for £500,000.
The F 1 number plate sold for £440,625 in 2008. The plate is owned by Afzal Kahn and is on a Bugatti Veyron.
Though some might expect the S 1 plate to be on an Audi S1, the plate is actually registered to a Range Rover. This number plate sold in September 2008 for £404,063.
Currently on a Bentley Bentayga, the 1 D plate sold for £352,411 in June 2009. A Bentley Benteyga can be purchased for less than half the cost of this number plate.
The 1 S number plate was sold in March 2010 for £340,000. This plate is thought to have doubled in value since it’s 2010 sale.
While the M 1 plate sold for £331,500 in June 2006, its current value is estimated at £1million.
The GB plate is on a Rolls-Royce Phantom. The personalised plate sold for £325,000 in November 2009. It is now worth considerably more.
The D 1 plate is currently on a white Rolls-Royce Ghost. This plate sold for £300,096 in October 2015.
