Mitsubishi’s fastest selling new model, the Outlander PHEV, has taken the world by storm with its plug-in hybrid technology. This vehicle has won multiple awards and carries huge environmental and financial benefits – to showcase the latter benefits, Nathaniel Cars are lending a PHEV to David Wright Accountants.
Showcasing the PHEV
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
uses both electric and petrol power, with a range of 32½ miles on electric power alone. The vehicle emits just 44g of CO2
per kilometre, which means that no vehicle tax is payable, plus it’s exempt from the London congestion charge.
In addition to this, the PHEV is also eligible for the government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant. As the Benefit In Kind is just five per cent, this could effectively act as a pay rise of several thousand pounds a year to company car drivers. What’s more, business owners can benefit from savings on National Insurance contributions, plus it qualifies for 100 per cent First Year Allowance against business profits.
Last year, the Outlander PHEV won Diesel Car’s Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle award as well as Business Car’s Best Green Development gong in its Techie Awards, while in May this year it was named Best Ultra Low Emission Vehicle at the Fleet World Honours.

Stephen Griffiths, director at David Wright Accountants said: ‘This is a great vehicle for businesses. For company car drivers the savings are really significant – five per cent Benefit in Kind is incredible for a company car and 100 per cent First Year Allowance against business profits is also a great draw for companies.
‘The Outlander PHEV is the most tax-efficient vehicle on the market at the moment – the tax savings and, indeed, running cost savings are quite significant. We’ve had a lot of interest from clients. As a tax adviser it really is an easy sell for people when they are thinking of changing their company car.’
Earlier this year, Stephen featured in a social media film extolling the financial virtues of the Outlander PHEV:
Wayne Griffiths, Managing Director of Nathaniel Cars, said: ‘It’s great to get an accountant’s perspective regarding this environmentally friendly hybrid. Stephen’s comments show that the PHEV has great monetary benefits for company car users. Nathaniel Cars are very pleased to work in association with David Wright Accountants to promote this vehicle to their customers.’
