The eagle-eyed amongst us have spotted the new MG HS SUV out and about on the UK roads, testing in rather wintery conditions. The Chinese-owned company, who debuted the HS in China last year, had previously not confirmed whether the model would be coming to the UK. This sighting indicates an official release some time later in 2019.

The HS is a replacement for the GS SUV, for which production has ceased, and will be removed from sale this year. The design is based on the X-Motion concept, which the company revealed in April 2018, and the styling is similar to that of the ZS – its slightly smaller sibling.

Whilst the final specifications for the UK release are currently unknown, in China the HS has two four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, coming in either 1.5-litres (170hp) or 2-litres (220hp) in size. And though we don’t know exactly which models will be available in the UK, the model spotted is fitted with the 1.5-litre petrol option. The HS also comes with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

The model shown at the launch featured a glass panoramic sunroof, a premium Bose audio system, and a range of state-of-the-art technology. This includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10-inch touchscreen display, and the MG pilot driver assistance, including lane-keep-assist and adaptive cruise control. Plus, you can also choose a leather interior, sports seats, and ambient lighting options in the Excellence models.

The HS will be the company’s largest SUV, as it comes in bigger than the ZS, however a newer, larger model is currently in development, which may come with a choice of 5 or 7 seats. But until then, we look forward to the HS going on sale in the UK later this year.
