Rugby international, Mike Phillips, is putting the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid – the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - to the test.

Mike Phillips is Wales’s most-capped scrum-half and currently plays for French club Racing Métro. Nathaniel Cars have lent Mike a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for him to use while he’s back in Wales over the next couple of months.

“I’m grateful to Nathaniel Cars for giving me the opportunity to drive this great SUV, I’m so impressed with the PHEV,” said Mike Phillips.

“I can’t believe how quiet it is and the fuel efficiency you can achieve is outstanding. It’s a great hybrid vehicle and I can understand why it has won so many awards over the past year!” he continued.

Nathaniel Cars Managing Director, Wayne Griffiths, said: ‘We’re delighted to lend Mike an Outlander PHEV. It’s a star car for a star player, and we know he’ll love driving it because of its fantastic environmental and fuel economy credentials as well as its impressive performance.’

Being launched in 2014, the Outlander PHEV has already claimed the accolade of being the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid, with Mitsubishi Motors UK selling over 10,000 by the end of March 2015.

The PHEV utilizes both electric and petrol power, emitting just 44g of CO2 per kilometer – meaning there is no payable vehicle tax on this model and it is exempt from the London congestion charge. The electric motor provides a range of 32½ miles, while the official combined fuel consumption figure is a staggering 148MPG.

In 2014 the Outlander PHEV won awards for Diesel Car’s Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle and Business Car’s Best Green Development. It continued this winning streak in 2015, being named as the Best Ultra Low Emission Vehicle at the Fleet World Honours.
